Employment at Balfour Academy

Teachers: We hire certified teachers who are experienced in teaching inner city youth.

Subjects taught to 7-9th graders: English, Mathematics, Science, Current Events, Spanish, and Human Relations.

Subjects taught 10-12th graders: English, Mathematics

Instructional Assistants: These are usually college students or recent graduates. They either assist in the classes or attend the college courses and conduct recitation sections. In the afternoon they teach sports. On Fridays they supervise field trips.

Tutors: We hire tutors who are usually college undergraduates to tutor our students on a one-to-one basis. Students choose what subject they are struggling with in school and we pair them with college students who have strength in that subject.
